don’t let your self-worth be defined by your work.

i’d be lying if i said that i am guided by some objective metrics when it comes to evaluating creative works. in fact, lately i feel like i’ve been challenging that assumption more and more, coming back to some of the older music i enjoyed and realizing how much value there is in said music actually enduring in listener’s memory. due to its high variance listener-to-listener, it’s an inherently subjective and poorly quantifiable metric, and as such i grew to accept the variances of views on music between the people. there are not that many opinions to be apologetic for besides mine and those that fit me the best.

i once wanted to be like people on rym who log n-th rating of a given album they’ve listened to, celebrating every musical milestone they’ve achieved, but i found it to be quite incompatible with how i experience music in general. i am open to revisiting things from time to time, and these days i am way more likely to revise my ratings if my opinions change. i always prefer having a recent opinion over one i held years ago.
